Academic scholarships

Academic scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and potential who typically show:

  • High levels of intellectual curiosity and engagement
  • Strong attainment across core subjects
  • Capacity for independent thinking
  • A positive attitude to learning

Academic Scholars are expected to contribute actively to the scholarly life of the school and to act as role models for academic effort and ambition among their peers.

QE Flourish Scholarships recognise outstanding talent and potential in areas that contribute to the wider life of the school, including:

  • Music
  • Drama and Performing Arts
  • Sport
  • Innovation
  • Leadership and Service

These scholarships align explicitly with the QE Flourish framework and its strands of Compete, Create, Care, and Challenge. Scholars are expected to participate fully in relevant enrichment pathways and to make a positive contribution to the cultural and co-curricular life of the school.

Value of scholarships

Scholarships may take the form of:

  • Partial awards of up to 25% of tuition fees.
  • Full scholarships for students with exceptional achievements in specific fields (for example achieving international recognition or honours in a particular field or discipline).

Awards are limited in number and are made at the school’s discretion. Scholarships may also be held in addition to other fee remissions, including Founding Families remission.

Standards

Typically, candidates for an Academic scholarship would be expected to demonstrate:

  • A CAT4 profile indicating high academic potential, normally within the upper percentile range (for example, stanine 8–9 or equivalent) in one or more relevant batteries. This data is used as one indicator of potential rather than as a single determining factor. The school recognises that cognitive profiles vary and will consider each child holistically when making scholarship decisions.
  • Strong performance across core curriculum subjects, particularly English, Mathematics, and Science.
  • Evidence of the capacity to engage successfully with academic stretch and challenge programmes.

Expectations

Academic Scholars are expected to:

  • Maintain high levels of academic effort and engagement across subjects
  • Respond positively to intellectual challenge and extension opportunities
  • Participate actively in academic enrichment, competitions, lectures, and research activities
  • Act as role models for scholarship, conduct, and academic ambition within the school community

Scholarship applications are considered through a confidential and respectful process overseen by the school’s Scholarships Committee. The committee is composed of:

  • The Queen Elizabeth’s Global Schools CEO
  • The Headmaster of QE Barnet
  • The Founding Principal, QE Gurugram
  • The Founding Head of Prep, QE Gurugram

The committee will co-opt other members to suit the needs of the assessment being undertaken. They may include:

  • The Director of Sport
  • The Deputy Head
  • The Heads of Senior School

Assessment may include, as appropriate:

  • Review of academic records or evidence of achievement
  • Written assessments or tasks
  • Interviews
  • Auditions, performances, or portfolios
  • References or reports from previous schools or specialist teachers

For Academic Scholarships, candidates may be invited to attend an interview with the Principal or a member of the Senior Leadership Team. These interviews are designed to explore intellectual curiosity, independence of thought, academic motivation, and readiness for challenge.

For QE Flourish Scholarships, particularly in areas involving performance or specialist practice, candidates may be required to:

  • Attend an interview with the Principal, a Senior Leader or a subject specialist
  • Participate in an audition, performance, trial, or practical assessment
  • Discuss their experience, training, commitment, and potential contribution to the school community

These interviews and assessments allow the school to evaluate both current attainment and future potential, as well as the candidate’s capacity to engage fully with the expectations of the QE Flourish Programme.

The school reserves the right to determine the composition of interview panels and the form of assessment appropriate to each scholarship category.

Review and tenure of scholarships
