A headstart for life at QE Gurugram.

Starting at a new school is an exciting milestone. The QE Bridge Programme gives incoming students an opportunity to become part of life at Queen Elizabeth’s School, Gurugram, before the new academic year begins.

Designed particularly for students whose current academic year concludes in March or April, the programme offers an early introduction to the QE environment. By joining their respective year groups, participating in regular lessons and activities, and getting to know their teachers and peers, students can settle in at their own pace and approach August 2027 with confidence.

A bridge to a confident beginning

Moving to a new school involves much more than adjusting to a different classroom. It means getting to know new teachers, making friends, understanding new expectations and finding your place in an unfamiliar environment.

For students joining QE Gurugram, particularly those transitioning from national curricula such as CBSE, ICSE or state boards, this experience may also involve becoming familiar with the Cambridge curriculum and different approaches to teaching and learning.

The programme has been designed to make this transition smoother.

Beginning in April 2027, incoming students will join their respective year groups, participating in the school's regular timetable, classroom learning and wider activities. This gives them the opportunity to experience the QE environment first-hand, build relationships and gradually become comfortable with the expectations and opportunities that come with being part of the school.

Rather than learning about QE from the outside, students get to experience what it means to be part of the community.

Understanding the QE experience

The QE Bridge Programme brings together different aspects of school life to help every student feel prepared, supported and ready to belong.

Academic confidence

Every child joins with their own experiences, strengths and learning needs. Through classroom participation, appropriate assessments and ongoing teacher guidance, we develop an understanding of each student's starting point.

Students become familiar with the academic expectations of their year group, strengthen their foundations where needed and develop the confidence to approach new subjects and challenges.

For those transitioning from national curricula, this also includes becoming familiar with the Cambridge curriculum, its subject expectations and approaches to learning and assessment.

Learning and personal development

At QE, learning extends beyond acquiring knowledge. Students are encouraged to think independently, ask questions, work collaboratively and take responsibility for their progress.

By participating in their regular lessons and activities, students become familiar with the school's teaching approaches and develop important skills such as organisation, critical thinking, resilience and independent learning.

Relationships, wellbeing and belonging

Feeling comfortable and connected is an important part of settling into a new school.

Students have opportunities to get to know their teachers, classmates and the wider pastoral team. They become familiar with school routines, understand where to seek support and begin building friendships.

A supportive environment and regular check-ins help each student develop a sense of belonging from the outset.

Discovering life beyond the classroom

A QE education encompasses far more than academic learning. Sport, music, the arts, leadership, service and other co-curricular experiences provide opportunities for students to explore their interests and discover new strengths.

Through participation in the school's regular activities, incoming students can experience this wider dimension of QE life, build connections with their peers and begin finding their place within the community.

A transition shaped around every stage

Every age brings different needs, expectations and opportunities. The QE Bridge Programme takes these differences into account, with students joining the appropriate year groups and receiving support suited to their stage of development.

Nursery (EY1) to Grade 1 (Year 2)

The focus is on helping younger children feel comfortable in their new surroundings while developing communication, early literacy and numeracy, social interaction and confidence.

Becoming familiar with daily routines, teachers and classmates helps establish a positive foundation for their school journey.

Grade 2 (Year 3) to Grade 5 (Year 6)

Students continue to strengthen their reading, writing and mathematical foundations while developing independence, organisation and confidence in the classroom.

They become familiar with QE's teaching and learning approaches, classroom expectations and the importance of collaboration and taking ownership of their learning.

Grade 6 (Year 7) to Grade 9 (Year 10)

As academic expectations become more demanding, students are supported in developing subject knowledge, independent learning, critical thinking and effective study habits.

They become familiar with the expectations of the Cambridge curriculum and the approaches required at their respective year levels. For students entering Year 10, this includes guidance on IGCSE subject choices and preparation for the next stage of their academic journey.

A welcoming start to boarding life

For students joining QE as boarders, the transition also means becoming comfortable with a new residential environment.

The QE Bridge Programme allows incoming boarders to experience school and boarding life ahead of the August academic year. Students can stay in residence and participate in the school's regular academic timetable, alongside the usual boarding arrangements.

They have the opportunity to become familiar with their boarding house, residential staff and fellow boarders while developing the independence and confidence needed to make the most of residential school life.

With wellbeing, wellbeing and individual support at the heart of the experience, we aim to make the transition into boarding a positive and reassuring one.

A transition shaped around every stage

Every age brings different needs, expectations and opportunities. The QE Bridge Programme takes these differences into account, with students joining the appropriate year groups and receiving support suited to their stage of development.

We establish an understanding of each student's academic starting point through a review of previous school reports, conversations with parents and appropriate assessments. These help us understand their approach to English, Mathematics, Science, communication, research, independent learning, collaboration and digital skills.

Teachers observe students as they participate in their regular lessons and activities. Ongoing feedback, appropriate assessments and individual check-ins help us understand their progress and identify where additional guidance may be beneficial.

Parents are kept formally informed of their child's progress, with a Parent–Teacher Meeting arranged before the end of the programme.

Students who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL) or have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), are supported by our Inclusion team.

We recognise that every child's needs are different. Support is therefore discussed with families individually and shaped around the student.
